Officer Duties & Expectations

1. Officer positions run June 1 to May 31, regardless of the date of the chapter banquet and elections.

2. All Sands FFA Officers are expected to be enrolled in at least one AFNR course each semester they are an Officer. This does not include courses taught by non-AST staff.

3. Duties of each specific office are outlined in the current version of the FFA Official Manual. Each officer is expected to fulfill the duties of the office to which they are elected, relative to school board policy.

4. All officers are expected to attend (unless otherwise excused by the AST):
a. Area II Leadership Camp (top 6 offices, per area policy)
b. State Convention
c. District Fall Meeting
d. District Spring Banquet
e. Area Convention

5. All officers are expected to participate in:
a. At least one LDE/CDE/SDE (preferably more)
b. All fundraising activities (concession stand, fruit/meat, Open House, etc.)
c. All organized community service activities
d. Development and execution of the Program of Activities.

6. All officers should be actively working toward their Lonestar degree. If they have received it already, they should be working toward fulfilling the Texas FFA Scholarship Application requirements.

7. All officers are expected to be present at each officer and chapter meeting. Failure to attend three meetings without prior approval gives grounds for removal from office.

8. Penalties: First Offense – The officer will be verbally warned by the advisors and the officer’s parents will be contacted. Second Offense – A conference will be scheduled with parents, the advisors, the officer, and principal to discuss possible removal from office. Third Offense – The officer will be removed from office. Disciplinary action may also be included if appropriate.

9. Other duties may be assigned as needed by the advisors.
